Armed personal security officers (PSOs) provided to functionaries of Hindu outfits have been withdrawn from Sunday.
The armed PSOs had been provided to more than 80 functionaries of Hindu outfits, including two in Vellore district, following the brutal murders of Sangh Parivar leaders in Vellore and Salem in July last year. They were murdered by terror suspects Panna Ismail, ‘Police’ Fakruddin and Bilal Malik.
After assessing the present scenario, the police department withdrew the PSOs provided to president of Vijaya Bharatham Makkal Katchi Jai Shankar, of Ambur, on Sunday. However, the department is continuing the security cover for K Mahesh, Vellore zonal president of Hindu Munnani.
Police sources said armed PSOs provided to several functionaries of the Hindu outfits had been withdrawn after assessing the security threat to each individual.
