A total of 159 passengers of the Tiruchy-Singapore Tiger Airways flight were stranded at the Tiruchy International Airport for more than 17 hours, following a ‘technical snag’ here on Saturday night.

The Tiger Airways flight, which landed here at 11.10 pm was slated to depart from here at 11.55 pm to Singapore. However, the pilot could not move the flight and subsequently informed the situation to the terminal.

It was later found that one of the rear tyres of the aircraft was defunct, when the technical team examined the flight. As the defunct tyre could not be replaced immediately, the airways authorities informed it to the airways in Singapore.

All the passengers were taken to a private hotel in the city for accommodation. They spent nearly 14 hours in the hotel.

According to the airport authorities, a technical team rushed to Tiruchy airport from Singapore by a separate flight with the necessary equipment at 9.15 am on Sunday and started to replace the defunct tyre. As the process took more than five hours, the flight took off only at 5 pm on Sunday from Tiruchy airport.
