Ignored by BJP, KNMK to Back AIADMK

Kongu Nadu Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (KNMK), led by ‘Best’ Ramasamy will work for AIADMK’s victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Kongu Nadu Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (KNMK), led by ‘Best’ Ramasamy will work for AIADMK’s victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“State support is a crucial factor to form a strong government at the Centre. Hence, KNMK has decided to work for a massive victory of AIADMK in all 40 constituencies, including Puducherry, in the LS polls,” Ramasamy told Express.

“We will join the AIADMK campaign soon. If they get a large number of seats in the Parliament, many development schemes may come to the State,” he said.

“Our aim is to remove the Congress, which has not done anything to prevent the repeated arrests of fishermen. It was also showing a lethargic attitude in ensuring the welfare of Tamils in Sri Lanka,” noted Ramasamy.

KNMK’s decision came after their relationship with the BJP soured. BJP reportedly denied LS seats to the candidates proposed by the KNMK, besides other demands. Earlier, Ramasamy had indicated that there was a high chance for the KNMK to align with the BJP, while announcing the list of candidates of his party.

“KNMK came to know from media reports that BJP has not allotted any seat to our party. Several other requests for the development of Kongu region were also sidelined by the national party,” said Ramasamy.

According to sources, the KNMK decided to support the AIADMK on Monday, as a majority of the functionaries pitched for an alliance with the ruling party in TN.

Ramasamy said, out of the 650 members, who participated in the meeting, as many as 412 voted for a tie-up with the AIADMK.

Party members, led by Ramasamy, are planning to meet Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on March 13 in Tirupur where she is scheduled to address a meeting in support of her candidate.
