A 24-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well with her six-month-old daughter, following a family dispute. The incident took place in Pudupatti village near Kalavai on Tuesday.
A Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) inquest has been ordered into the death of the woman as she had died within seven years of marriage.
The deceased was identified as Malathy, wife of Chakravathi of Mettu Colony in Kalavai and their daughter Sandhya. Police suspect that the woman took the extreme step after a quarrel with her husband. Malathy, along with her daughter had been living with her parents in Pudupatti for the last three months.
She went missing with her daughter on Monday night. Her parents’ and relatives’ frantic search for them ended in vain. On Tuesday morning, the villagers found Malathy’s body and that of her child floating in a public well. A case was registered and police forwarded the case to Revenue Divisional Officer of Ranipet.
