Pro-Rangasamy TU Booked for Violation

A pro-Rangasamy trade union has been booked for holding a meeting without necessary clearance, violating the model code of conduct.

The charges were pressed by the District Election Officer’s (DEO) office against the Technical Certificate Holders ITI Welfare Union of the Electricity Department. The DEO’s nodal officer said, the Union’s recent hall meeting in Lenin Street had posters and banners depicting Chief Minister N Rangasamy and Electricity Minister T Thiagarajan, which was a gross violation of the model code. The Orleanpet police filed a case against the union, the nodal officer said.

His clarification confirms the DMK affiliated Minthurai Thozhlar Munnetra Sangam’s (MTMS) position that no case had been filed against it. Contradicting a report published in these columns, MTMS general secretary E Mathivanan said his union held an agitation on March 3 prior to the declaration of general elections,  so the model code was not in force at that point in time.
