A workshop for honing the skills of artisans on stone carving began at Gandhi Thidal on the beach here on Tuesday.

The workshop, organised by INTACH, Pondicherry and Aruo Progress Stone Crafts, focuses on carving modern and traditional designs on pebbles and rocks of varying sizes, textures and colours. Ten artisans from Puducherry and neighbouring areas are attending. The workshop will end on March 15. Organisers said the traditional carvings had become rather repetitive.
