A two-year-old boy was run over by a school van while he was playing in front of his house near Marakkanam on Tuesday morning. The driver fled after abandoning the vehicle.
According to police, a van belonging to a private nursery and primary school at Siruvadi village was taking children to the school from Nallaampakkam village on Tuesday morning.
The driver stopped the vehicle at Nagar village to pick up some students. It was then, Gopinath (2), son of Mohan, was playing near the van. But, the driver didn’t notice him and started the van. And it ran over the child. The driver, on hearing the villagers screaming, stopped the vehicle immediately and escaped from the spot.
Bramadesham police rushed to the spot and sent the body to the Tindivanam GH for an autopsy.
