The BJP, which announced six candidates, is yet to identify contestants for Thanjavur and Vellore constituencies.

The party, as expected, named State president Pon Radhakrishnan for the Kanniyakumari constituency. The list named national executive members L Ganesan (Chennai South), CP Radhakrishnan (Coimbatore) and H Raja (Sivaganga) as candidates. Also in the list were national council member S Gurumoorthy, set to contest from Nilgiris (SC), and Kuppuramu from Ramanthapuram. The BJP is yet to name candidates for Vellore and Thanjavur.

“Vellore and Thanjavur were never on our list. So, we had not identified candidates for them. But, we got them in the last minute wrangling in search of a list that was acceptable to all our allies. We are now in the process of identifying possible candidates,” a senior BJP functionary told Express.

The names for the two constituencies are likely to be announced in a matter of days, the source added.
