Over 11 lakh students from across the state will take the Class 10 examination on Wednesday with the Language Paper 1. The examinations will begin 45 minutes early this time in an attempt to reduce the brunt of the summer heat.

Out of the total, 10,38,876 will be school students taking the examinations from 3172 centres set up across the state and Puducherry. The boys outnumber the girls with  5,30,462 male students and 5,08,414 female students who will be writing the examinations and 11,552 schools will take part in the examinations. Apart from this there will be 74,647 private candidates who will be writing the examinations from 286 centres.

In Chennai, 56,556 students will write the examinations from 207 centres. A total of 27,943 boys and 28,613 girls will write the examinations. In Pondicherry, there are 46 centres and 18,509 students, including 9309 boys and 9200 girls.

The two and a half hours long paper will go on from 9.15am to 12 noon. The early hour is also expected to help students escape the traffic delays. “In the cities, the traffic is not expected to affect the students since the students have been asked to reach by 8.30 - 8.45 am at the examination hall this time. In remote areas district collectors have been asked to ensure transportation for students from areas with transportation issues,’ said the K Devarajan, Director of Government Examination.

Students will be provided with customised Top Sheets on their answer sheets with their names and all other details printed  in advance. The invigilators will also have photographs of each student along with their names. Larger 30 page answer sheets to avoid delay over requesting for extra- sheets, 20 page answer sheet and question paper stacks for each examination hall to ensure that stacks are opened only in the presence of students in the class etc are the other new measures in place.

Meanwhile, examination centres have been set up at Puzhal Jail and Tiruchy Central Jail. A total of 119 jail inmates will attempt the examinations including 45 from Chennai Puzhal and 74 from Tiruchy Central jail.
