70 Sovereigns Burgled from Chennai Flat

Burglars broke into a flat in a residential apartment complex and decamped with about 70 sovereign of gold jewellery at Chrompet on Thursday night.

Burglars broke into a flat in a residential apartment complex and decamped with about 70 sovereign of gold jewellery at Chrompet on Thursday night.

The watchman of the complex found the flat belonging to N Srinivasa Raghavan (67), a retired health department employee, open and alerted the Chrompet police.

Police said Srinivasa Raghavan’s family had left for Srirangam Temple only on Thursday evening. The burglars had broken open the door and a cupboard in the flat, located on the ground floor of Janaki Apartments in Chrompet.

When contacted over the phone, Srinivasa Raghavan had reportedly told police that nearly 70 sovereign of gold jewellery and `30,000 were kept in the cupboard.
