Tension gripped Anakavoor village near Cheyyar in Arni parliamentary constituency when a group of villagers, reportedly affiliated to the PMK, objected to AIADMK cadre Theeran criticising Dr S Ramadoss, during a campaign on Saturday night.
In the melee, the windshield of a campaign vehicle was damaged. Police said, AIADMK candidate Gingee ‘Seval’ V Elumalai, IT Minister ‘Mukkur’ N Subramanian and former MLA of Gingee, Theeran along with party supporters had gone to Anakavoor for poll campaign around 9.15 pm on Saturday. While addressing the gathering, Theeran criticised PMK founder Ramadoss stating that he had been using the community name for his own political benefits.
Irked PMK functionaries objected to Theeran’s speech. This resulted in a commotion and an agitated PMK cadre, M Gnanasekaran (27), and his father Murthy damaged the windshield of one of the campaign vehicles. This created a flutter in the locality for a while. However, no one was injured.
The Anakavoor police registered a case and arrested Gunasekaran.
However, Murthy was adsconding.
