Environment Studies Made Mandatory

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has asked all the State governments to ensure that Environmental Studies was introduced in all technical institutions as a compulsory subject.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has asked all the State governments to ensure that Environmental Studies was introduced in all technical institutions as a compulsory subject.

AICTE vice-chairman Avinash S Pant, in a recent letter to secretaries of states and Union Territories, referred to the Supreme Court directions on a PIL filed by M C Mehta on implementation of Environmental Studies as a compulsory subject in all educational institutions.

“To comply with the Supreme Court order on implementation of Environmental Studies, the AICTE has incorporated the subject in its model curriculum published on its website (www.aicte-india.org),” he said.
