JIPMER launched its fourth Battery Operated Vehicle (BOV) as part of the ‘Patient Transport Programme’ on Friday.

The vehicle, donated by V Sreedharan, general manager of Bank of Baroda as a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, was dedicated to the patients by Dr J Balachandar, medical superintendent, JIPMER.

The BOV will be dedicated to the patients of Regional Cancer Centre and JIPMER Women and Child Care Hospital for their mobility. A large number of poor patients reach JIPMER, through public transports.  While many are able to walk from entrance gate to OPD and in-patient services, some need help in moving them from the entrance to the building where they need to be treated.

Also, patients have to move from building to another building for investigations and tests. A significant number of stretchers and wheelchairs have already been purchased to enable patient mobility.
