Protest in Tamil Nadu Against Ban on Jallikattu

Residents and followers of 'jallikattu' in Alanganallur, Palamedu and Thirumogur today protested the Supreme court judgment banning the rural sport of taming bulls, by hoisting black flags and closing shops.

Thangaraj,member of the Bravery Sports Federation Committee at Thirumogur said "Jallikattu is a 400-year-old sport,and part of tamil tradition.We are not able to digest the ban on the sport.The chief Minister should file a review petition."

At Alanganallur, where Jallikattu is held as part of the Pongal festival, the shops remained closed.

The Palamedu temple committee members said they were holding jallikattu as per guidelines. The shops in the village also remained closed.
