Four Killed, 25 Hurt as Van Falls Off Bridge in Cuddalore

Four persons, including two women, died when a van in which they were travelling fell off a bridge near Vadalur on Sunday morning. 25 others from Mylapore were injured in the accident and are undergoing treatment at Cuddalore Government Hospital.

Gowthaman of Mylapore along with his relatives, was going to Velankani in a van. They started from Mylapore on Saturday night. When the van was travelling on Vikkiravandi-Kumbakonam road near Vadalurit on Sunday morning, it met with an accident.

The van, which was crossing a narrow bridge at Kannuthoppu, was hit on its rear side by a lorry which was coming from behind. The impact caused the van to fall off the bridge and it landed upside down. Van driver Yuvaraj (25) of Namakkal and Anjalai (56) of Thiruvannamalai died at the spot, whereas Niranjan (18) died in hospital. Lalitha of Arcot died at hospital despite treatment.

The lorry, that caused this mishap, fled from the spot immediately. Police has launched an investigation to find the lorry.
