The HMs of Pazugal Government Higher Secondary School and Padanthalumoodu TCK Higher Secondary school (aided) were suspended and the Eraniel Government Higher Secondary School HM was relieved of duty. Seven subject teachers who handled Plus Two classes were given 17 (a) and 17 (b) disciplinary notices. “Kanyakumari district’s 95.14 pass percentage is 1.11 per cent higher than last year’s pass percentage of 94.03. Students of the district have bagged four State ranks and the district retained the sixth position in pass percentage at the State level. Against this backdrop, all of a sudden, two HM’s were suspended, one was relieved from his duty and seven teachers were issued with 17 (a) and 17 (b) notices,” said V Vallivelu of the Federation of Kanyakumari District Teacher’s Associations. “The CEO on the instruction of the District Collector took action against the teachers,” added Vallivellu.

Though Express tried several times to contact CEO A S Radhakrishnan on his mobile phone, he could not be reached. His PA’s number was also not reachable. Highly-placed official sources, justified the action and said that though Eraniel school has two mathematics teachers, 56 among 177 students who appeared in the exam failed in the subject.

Girl commits suicide over low score

Tirunelveli: A class XII student committed suicide by immolating herself, in Melappavoor near Pavoorchatram on Sunday. Low marks in one of her subjects was said to be the reason behind her taking the extreme step. Sources said, Madhubala, a class XII student from Melappavaoor stayed with her grandmother Annathai while her parents worked in Kerala. She was depressed after she secured low marks in history. She doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze and died on the spot. Pavoorchatram police registered a case.
