The stepfather of a 12-year-old girl was on Tuesday arrested for raping her in Vaniyambadi Town.
According to police sources, Arun Vijay (24) of Alangayam had developed an affair with a woman (aged about 30), a widow and mother of a daughter and two sons. He converted to Islam and changed his name to Mohammed Ismail and married the woman six months ago. He was living with her and her children in Salamabad. The woman, who was four months pregnant, was admitted on Monday at the Government Hospital in Vaniyambadi after she fell ill.
After admitting her in the hospital, Ismail rode the woman’s 12-year-old daughter and five-year-old son home on his bike. After the woman’s sons fell asleep, Ismail, who was in an inebriated condition, gagged the girl and raped her, said the police quoting the girl’s statement. Ismail was remanded in the Vellore Central Prison for Men.
