Row at Temple Sparks Attack on Two Dalits

Two dalit youth were injured in an attack on them which happened as a sequel to an altercation during a temple festival near Valangaiman.

Police said, during the car festival of Mariammankoil located in Aandankoil villa-ge, crackers were burst on Sunday night. During this event, the base of a flag mast of the VCK located in the ma-in road was damaged.

The VCK cadre from Manjeri complained this to festival organisers, who in turn agreed to set right the damaged flag post. Meanwhile, on Monday, S Anbarasan (31) of Manjeri and Prabhu (30), his friend were proceeding on a motorcycle when they were  waylaid by a group at Aandankoil main road. The gang attacked the duo and fled the spot. Critically injured Anbarasan and Prabhu were rushed to Kumbakonam  GH.

Based on a complaint by Anbarasan, Valangaiman a case under Sec 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with deadly weapons), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons) of the IPC, and various Sections of the SC/ST Act were registered against  Karthick, S Raghu, S Arumugam, K Arumugham (23), S Settu (45).
