Tea Museum at Coonoor to Woo Visitors

Tourists visiting Nilgiris this summer will have an added attraction, thanks to the State government undertaking Tamil Nadu Tea Plantation Corporation Ltd (TANTEA) opening a Tea Museum near Sim’s Park in Coonoor.

COONOOR: Tourists visiting Nilgiris this summer will have an added attraction, thanks to the State government undertaking Tamil Nadu Tea Plantation Corporation Ltd (TANTEA) opening a Tea Museum near Sim’s Park in Coonoor.

The museum, built at a cost of `9 lakh taken from the Hill Area Development Programme, is housed in one of the bungalows remodelled for the purpose. The facility offers under one-roof an opportunity to tourists to gather facts about tea and procure their choice of the best quality tea. There is no entry fee, said TANTEA managing director Dr S Balaji while speaking to Express on Tuesday after inaugurating the museum.

The general information provided here includes types of tea, health benefits of anti-oxidants in tea, production and exports. There is a model of Tiger Hill factory and a demonstration on manufacturing varieties of tea, said T Murugesan, TANTEA divisional manager.
