Panchayat Chairman's Son Kidnapped

SALEM: Unidentified persons have kidnapped the son of Edappadi union panchayat chairman here on Sunday.

According to Poolampatty police,  A Madesh, a resident of Pakkanadu near Edappadi is the Edappadi union panchayat chairman. He belongs to the ruling AIADMK. His son Sankar (30),  runs a petrol bunk in the locality.

On Sunday morning, Sankar went to Jalakandapuram to collect a courier. When his father tried to call him through his cell phone, it remained switch off for a long time. After a few hours at around 1.30 pm, the panchayat chief received a phone call.  The person, who spoke from the other side, told that they had kidnapped his son. He also demanded `2 crore cash from him to let his son free. Later, the panchayat leader lodged a complaint to Poolampaty police about the incident.

The police, who received the complaint, registered a case under section 360 a (kidnapping for ransom). When Express tried to contact the District Superintendent of Police R Sakthivel, he was not available for comment regarding the alleged kidnap of the panchayat leader’s son.
