Injured CISF Man Goes Under Knife

CHENNAI: One of the two Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel injured in the shootout reported in Kalpakkam underwent surgery for stabilisation around 9 am in the morning at a private Hospital in Kelambakkam on Wednesday.

Pratap Singh, (57) and Govardhana Prasad, (42), both injured in the shoot-out, were admitted to the Chettinad Hospital on Old Mahabalipuram Road. The latter who suffered minor injuries in the leg was discharged.

Sources said Pratap Singh reportedly suffered three bullet injuries of which two had grazed through the body in the right rib region, while one bullet entered a bone in the lower hip region.

“He was brought in with bullet wounds and severe blood loss. After stabilisation, we ascertained that the bullets had grazed two ribs and passed near several vital organs. The surgical team performed reparative abdominal surgery and he is responding well. There may be a need for follow up surgery, but we will only be able to tell after 48 hours. Until then, he will remain in the ICU,” said a surgeon at the hospital.
