CHENNAI: Southern Railway Mazdoor Union General Secretary N Kanniah on Thursday alleged that Railways is looting passengers in the name of Premium Trains and Premium Tatkal.
In a statement here, he alleged that rail fares are going up drastically due to this.
He said the Railways should have come out with special trains as usual during the festival season.
He said under the dynamic pricing policy ticket fares go up from 10 percent to 200 percent on every 10 percent of berths booked like in airlines. Further, normal tatkal bookings, costlier than ordinary reserved accommodation by Rs 150 to 300, is also reduced to 50 percent and the remaining 50 percent is offered as premium tatkal, by which the passengers are forced to pay nearly upto `3000 for a sleeper class ticket and `9000 for a second AC.
According to him premium trains and premium tatkal on dynamic pricing policy would affect the ordinary passengers.
