VILLUPURAM : District superintendent of police on Thursday said for the convenience of the public the police department has introduced a new method by which complaints can be lodged through WhatsApp and Viber.
Speaking to mediapersons during the launch of the new service, Villupuram district SP V Vikaraman said, a special intelligence wing has been set up in SP’s office to take care of law and order across the district. This will help reduce crime in the district, which is one large districts in the state, he added.
He said, the department decided to set up another wing to receive complaints from the public directly. Since it was found that mobile usage among the public was high and most use smartphones with WhatsApp, we introduced a new method by which the public can lodge complaint using their phone.
Problems faced by women, traffic problems and such complaints can be informed directly to the special team using WhatsApp, Viber or SMS and. It can also be reported on the mobile number, 9655440092. Details like the name and address of the complainant would be kept secret, he said. He said, action would be taken immediately by the SP or officials under him. The public can also take a video clip or photograph on their mobile phone and send it to the police via WhatsApp or Viber as proof and action would be taken immediately, he said. The special wing can also be contacted directly on the mobile number 8300015426 to lodge complaints.
He said these steps would help police take action and also reduce crime across the district. During the meet, special wing inspector Saravanan was also present.
