Burglar Strikes at House of French National

PUDUCHERRY: Burglars broke into a French national’s house at Bader Sahib Street here on Monday and decamped with cash, gold and land documents.

Police said the French national Raja (54), working as a teacher in France, owns a three-storeyed house.

Raja, his wife Lourde (45) and two children reached Puducherry in May following his mother Marie’s death. Raja and his children returned to France, while Lourde stayed back for family reasons.  Lourde was staying on the first floor of the house while the ground floor was locked. The top floor was  rented out. Lourde had locked the gates of the house and went to the first floor to sleep on Sunday night.

On Monday morning, she found the locks broken and the back door open. There, she found the four almirahs ransacked with the cash, jewels and land documents missing.

She informed the police immediately. Police summoned fingerprint experts. The dog squad was also pressed into service. Police said worth of the stolen items would be  known only after Raja’s return from France.

Lourde lodged a complaint with the Odiansalai police, following which a case was registered.
