Two Men from Kovai Drown in Mauritius Pool

COIMBATORE: In a tragic incident, two men from here, who had gone on a business trip to a Mauritius, reportedly drowned in the swimming pool of the hotel where they were staying.

According to sources, V Rajesh Kamal (27) of Peelamedu and C Sarath Chandran (29) of Kuniamuthur, were part of a team of employees of  VWR International that left for Mauritius on October 8. On Saturday, their families were shocked to hear about the deaths from the company.

Sarath’s family was told by Embassy officials that the he was bathing in the pool at Les Orchidees Hotel in Mauritius when the incident occurred. Since Sarath was a diabetic, it is suspected that he might have suffered a stroke or a fit, and struggled to stay afloat. Rajesh, who tried to rescue his friend, had also drowned. The families were angry with the management of the Hotel for not  keeping lifeguards stationed near the pool in case of an emergency. 

“Sarath’s parents, his wife and son are dependent on his income. The sad part is that his father is also unwell,” said a family member. The bodies of the two men, which had reached Chennai via flight on Tuesday, reached Coimbatore in specially arranged ambulances.
