Aavin Tankers to be Tracked Using GPS

CHENNAI: Dairy Development Minister BV Ramanaa on Wednesday directed officials to explore the possibility of using modern techniques to check adulteration of Aavin milk and also take steps to increase sale of Aavin milk products.

Chairing a review meeting of his ministry, the Minister discussed at length the steps taken to prevent adulteration of Aavin milk.

He said officials should explore possibility of using improved plastic seals on the tanker lorries which carry Aavin milk and suggested that GPS equipment be installed in the lorries so that their movement could be tracked.

Further, the Minister instructed officials to act on these suggestions expeditiously.

The Aavin management had recently constituted six high-level committees which have been checking tanker lorries by carrying out surprise checks.

Pointing out that the State government had been taking various measures to usher in a second White Revolution, the Minister said officials must ensure that new milk producers associations are started in more number of places in the State.

Efforts must be taken to revive dysfunctional associations, and milk producers should be cleared of their dues on time, BV Ramanaa added.
