PUDUCHERRY: A dentist and his mother committed suicide one after the other on Tuesday morning after she began to feel that her newly-wed son was neglecting her.
Jayaraj (30), an assistant professor in the Mahatma Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Dental Sciences (MGPGI), Gorimedu, and his mother Rajeshwary (60), residing on Vanakkaran Street, Mudaliarpet, got into frequent quarrels ever since he got married to Revathy, a resident of Ozhukarai, three months ago.
Days after the wedding, Jayaraj’s mother began thinking she was being neglected and ignored by her son.
On Monday evening, when Revathy went to her parent’s place , Rajeshwary picked up an argument with her son. When her daughter Sreedevi, who came visiting them, learnt about it, she decided to take her mother to her residence at Vanarapet.
But on Tuesday morning, Rajeshwary left her daughter’s house without informing anyone. Reaching her son’s home, she hanged herself with a piece of cloth. When Jayaraj woke up and found his mother hanging, he too hanged himself.
