Spl Court to Handle Terror Trio

‘Police’ Fakruddin, associates to appear for next hearing on Sep11 in newly formed speedy trial court in Chennai

VELLORE: Terror suspects ‘Police’ Fakruddin (alias) S Fakruddin and his two associates Bilal Malik and ‘Panna’ Ismail, who were named as prime suspects in the murder of the leaders and functionaries of the BJP and Sangh Parviar in the State, will be produced before the newly constituted Special Court in Poonamallee on the outskirts of Chennai on September 11.

The Special Court, after obtaining the permission of State Governor K Rosaiah, had been set up for the speedy trial in the murder cases involving functionaries of second rank leaders and active members of the HM and BJP in the State.

The State had issued an order regarding the constitution of the Special Court on August 26 and transferred all eight cases filed against the trio to the Special Court. Following this, the courts in Vellore, Madurai, Salem and Tirunelveli had been instructed to forward charge sheets filed against the trio to the Special Court.

The Special Investigation Division (SID) of CB-CID, which probed eight cases against the trio, filed charge sheets for seven out of them. This included the murder cases of Hindu Munnani State general secretary Munnani S Vellaiyappan, BJP Medical Wing secretary Dr V Aravinth Reddy and the BJP State general secretary ‘Auditor’ Ramesh. The three were also named as the prime accused in planting a pipe-bomb along the convoy route of the BJP senior leader L K Advani two years ago. Except the murder case of M Panchatcharam, a jewellery shop staff and resident of Gudiyattam, the SID had filed charge sheets in other seven cases. The trio had murdered and robbed him of `1.75 lakh to fund their jihad activities.

“The trio has been informed by the Magistrate of the JM Court- III, which is hearing the murder case of Vellaiyappan and Dr Aravinth Reddy, that they would be produced before the Special Court for the next hearing on September 11,” said a police source. The trio would be shifted to the prison-cum-Special Court campus at Poonamallee on or before September 10 from Vellore Central Prison for Men.

“After receiving the orders from the Home Department to shift the trio to Poonamallee, the prison authorities will hand them over to the district police. They will escort them to the Special Court-cum-prison and hand them over to the authorities there,” said the source.

The designated courts, which have been hearing the murder case involving the functionaries of Sangh Parivar, have also been instructed to transfer the material evidence and chargesheets filed by the SID to the Special Court at the earliest.
