PUDUCHERRY: The UT government’s move to engage retired school teachers to fill up 54 posts of Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) has been opposed by various teachers’ associations.

The TGT’s would get a consolidated pay of Rs 18,000 per month on a temporary basis till the court case related to promotions of teachers is disposed.

However, Puducherry UT School Teachers’ Federation and Puducherry Graduate Teachers Association have raised objections  and instead want promotions be given to the posts. As per the recruitment rules, the teachers should be promoted to the posts by inserting a clause that their appointment would be subject to the outcome of the court case.
