Feasibility of Deepening Lake to Be Studied

PUDUCHERRY: The Territorial government will examine the feasibility of deepening Alankuppam lake to set up a boat house near Auroville, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told Assembly on Friday.

Replying to a question from PML Kalyanasundaram (AINRC), the CM accepted the views of the MLA that such a measure would promote rural tourism and that the feasibility aspects would be studied to see whether water is retained throughout the year in the lake.

A new tourism project on a 55-acre land at Ashoka Hotel was planned on public- private partnership (PPP) mode. A proposal had been prepared and would be sent to the government for approval. The underground drainage scheme work was on and would be completed by March, the CM said.

Contractors had been directed to speed up works, he said in reply to a question from Ashok Anand (AINRC).  The PWD has remitted the cost towards restoration of roads to Oulgaret Municipality and the work would be carried out, he said. The government was examining the applications for issue of red ration cards and considering if some of the applicants could be split into two families so that the ration cards could be issued to them.
