Fleeing Serial Killer Nabbed in Salem

TIRUCHY: A 25-year-old history-sheeter has been arrested by police in connection with the murder cases of five persons, including a couple, in separate incidents which took place in Ariyalur district, in Salem district on Sunday.

According to police, the accused who was identified as A Subbarayan, of Kathiripattai near Ethappur in Salem district was arrested by police when he tried to flee after stabbing the occupant Selvam of Koottu road in Salem district.

Investigation revealed that he had a hand in the murder of Muthulakshmi (72) and her daughter Saraswathi (25) of Kayarlabath near Kallakurichi in Ariyalur district on August 29.

Enquiries revealed that Subbarayan was connected with the murder of a couple and their one-and-a-half-year-old female child on September 6 at Senthamangalam in Senthurai taluk of the Ariyalur district.

The police identified the baby’s slain father as P Velmurugan (37), a native of Senthamangalam village in Senthurai taluk. He was a sub contractor in a private cement factory in Thalavai and operated a tractor for hire. Both Velmurugan and his wife V Parvathi (27) had deep cut injuries on their heads as the assailants had used an axe which Velmurugan had in his house to cut wood to attack all the three of the family members.

The superintendent of police had ordered an inquiry and formed special teams to nab the culprits.

It may be noted that the accused recently murdered his grand mother in 2012 and was lodged in jail till July 2014.
