Electronic Manufacturing Cluster Planned in Mettupalayam, Says CM

PUDUCHERRY: The Territorial government has proposed to establish an electronic manufacturing cluster (EMC) by utilising the IT SEZ (special economic zone) land at Mettupalayam , said Chief Minister N Rangasamy  Replying to a query from K Lakshminarayanan (Congress),  Rangasamy said the EMC would help the Union Territory grow by increasing the job  opportunities and tax revenues. Besides, the IT hardware-manufacturing would be encouraged through incentives given in consultation with the government of India, he added.

He reiterated that he would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard and ensure industrial development in the Union Territory.

He said  the land acquired for setting up an IT Park at Kalapet was now being handed over to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Ministry to set up a technological development centre. Recently, Rangasamy had  also spoken to the Secretary in the Ministry in this regard.

 E Valsaraj (Congress) suggested that the government conduct a global investors’ meeting and showcase Puducherry to avail of investments, because, he felt, investors would not respond  through advertisements alone.
