PUDUCHERRY: A glittering celebration in the form of Puducherry Cultural carnival marked the Wold Tourism day celebrations, organised by Department of Tourism here on Saturday and Sunday. The large crowd that gathered on beach road witnessed a variety of events performed by over 350 artists and cultural troupes from all over the country. From traditional to contemporary and even innovative programmes were performed. Tableau on Tourism, Horse ride, Mangala Isaai, Puducherry band, ‘Karagattam’ and Puducherry’s own Masquerade from its French legacy were some of the events that came live on beach road.
To entertain children, a zigzag walk of cartoon characters also participated in the parade. A decorated boat floated on the north south direction along the shore line with glittering lights and fire works display.
Earlier in the day the celebrations began with many inflated balloons flown in to the sky. A rally comprising of students from various schools, colleges and NSS walked along the beach road holding placards with slogans emphasising the importance of tourism.
