A TASMAC supervisor told Express that the State government is about to overhaul the functioning of liquor shops and may close down some outlets.

Social activists have welcomed the move. N Ramakrishnan, a civic activist said, “The government should form a team of a retired judge, senior IAS and IPS officers and a psychiatrist and interact with the people in every block so that the government can gradually close the outlets.”

When contacted, TASMAC senior regional manager (Tiruchy region) Elango said he has not received any official communication in this regard.
