Patronage for Siddha Up, Says Expert

Once people learn more about the positive aspects of the Siddha system of medicine they become interested in trying it.

VELLORE: Once people learn more about the positive aspects of the Siddha system of medicine they become interested in trying it, noted Dr Gopalarathinam, senior entomologist.

He made this observation while speaking at the inauguration of a three-day Mother and Child Healthcare camp organised by the Vellore-Puducherry Field Publicity units, Tamil Nadu Parambariya Siddha Vaidya Maha Sangam and Women Organisation for Rural Development (WORD), an NGO, on Wednesday.

Claiming that in the past ten years, there has been increased awareness about siddha, he pointed out that during the chikungunya and dengue outbreaks in the State in 2012, ‘nilavembu kudineer’ was distributed by government and NGOs like Vaidyar Sangam keep it under control. Studies proved that natural bio-repellents drive away disease-causing mosquitoes better than artificial ones, he said.

Field Publicity Officer Dr Sivakumar, State president of Vaidyr Sangam Arjunan, director of WORD Maragatham, among others, spoke on the occasion.
