Thanjavur Administration Seeks Public View on Mahamaham Festival

THANJAVUR:  Following the orders of the first bench of the Madras High court,the district administration has set up a special cell to receive suggestions from public on the conduct of Mahamaham festival, slated on February 22 in Kumbakonam.

As several lakhs of devotees are expected to turn up for the festival, the district administration has taken up several infrastructural works at the temple town to provide amenities and ensure their safety.

Renovation works are also taken up at various places including the Mahamaham tank, the Potramarai tank and bathing ghats in the banks of Cauvery and Arasalaru rivers.

A website detailing the works being undertaken for the festival has been created at the address http://onlinethanjavur.com/mahamaham/

“Provisions are made in the webpage for public, social activists and devotees to give their suggestions and complaints,” district collector Dr N Subbaiyan, said in an official release.

A special cell has been set up at district Collectorate to receive the suggestions from the public.

To get the views, a head assistant (Mahamaham) will be available to receive the calls at phone numbers 99422 66996,04362-230121. The suggestions could be sent through post to the address --  Mahamaham Special Cell, District Collectorate, Tiruchy Road, Thanjavur-613010.

Similarly, at Kumbakonam Revenue Divisional level, a special cell has been created with phone numbers 94425 35988, 0435- 2430101. At municipality level the public could contact 94431 30964, 0435-2425419.

A special Facebook page has also been created at https://www.facebook.com/Mahamaham-2016- 950304208374386/ and a twitter handle has also been created at https://twitter.com/Mahamaham2016 for the public to register their feedback.

Besides, a phone number 9942266996 has been created for sending suggestions through WhatsApp. The suggestions could be sent to the e-mail id  mailtomahamaham2016@gmail.com, the release added.
