Monster Babysitter Couple Beats Relative's Kids to Pulp in Vellore

VELLORE: Two children from here have narrated horrific tales of how their maternal aunt and her husband tortured them by bludgeoning them with logs and pouring hot water on their limbs, with doctors saying they are facing life-threatening injuries.

Police said that Lokeshwari (26) and her husband Amalraj (28) of Polur left their children, Ashwini (5) and Ashwin (4), with her sister Muthulakhsmi, a resident of Kothamarikuppam village in Melpatti police station limits, two weeks ago. They had left to Tirupur for work.

On Sunday, Amalraj received a phone call, thought to be from Muthulakshmi’s neighbours, that she and her husband Mari were torturing the children. Shocked by this, Amalraj and his wife rushed to Kothamarikuppam and reached there on Monday evening to find their children beaten to pulp.

The children reportedly told their parents that their aunt and uncle bludgeoned them using logs and also poured boiling water on their legs. Amalraj took the children to the Government Hospital in Gudiyattam.

A team of doctors checked on the children and informed their parents that Ashwini sustained critical injuries on her face and head. They also told them that Ashwini could lose her vision if she was not treated immediately. The four year-old boy sustained serious injuries on his head.

The doctors referred the children to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital for further treatment, added the source.

Following a complaint from Amalraj, the police picked up Mari and his wife and registered a case against them on charges of wrongful confinement, harassing and torturing the children, attempt to murder. The police have commenced a detailed inquiry into the case.

It was still unclear why the couple had tortured their relative’s children.
