COIMBATORE: In an effort aimed at helping students make informed choice of institutions while pursuing higher education, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed colleges and universities to display all details, including profile of faculty members, research output, and placement record of the institutions on their website.
UGC desires that for the benefit of the students, who seek admission in university or colleges, and their parents, it would be appropriate that all relevant information regarding the institutions should be displayed on its website, UGC Secretary Jaspal S Sandhu said in a recent letter to Vice Chancellors across the country.
The institutions should display all relevant information regarding admission procedure, availability of seats in various courses, etc on their site.
Apart from this, institutions were also asked to upload details like profile of teaching faculty members, calendar of activities, academic calendar, all student centric facilities available in the institutions like hostels, transport. In addition to this, higher education institutions were also asked to host in their website, information like research output of the institutions, placement profile of pass-outs of the institutions, all relevant approvals from statutory bodies.
They were also asked to provide the structure of fee charged for each course along with other funds like institution development, details of students grievance mechanism, name of the nodal officer for students’ facilitation services, scholarships, free-ships available in the institution, accreditation ranking of the institution.
Universities and colleges were directed by the UGC to take appropriate action on this within 15 days.
