Arivu Back in Vellore Jail Hale and Hearty After Treatment

VELLORE: Clad in a white V-neck T-shirt and jeans and carrying a black bag, the 43-year-old A G Perarivalan (alias Arivu, one of the life convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi killing case, returned on Friday afternoon to the Vellore Central Prison for Men that has been his home for 17 years.

Arivu, who was fondly called ‘education minister’ by other inmates, has been brought from the Puzhal Central Prison to Vellore Prison under tight security.

The prison officials lodged him in jail at 12.45 pm after thoroughly frisking him. He was carrying two bags containing vegetables, a sapling and a few milk sachets.

More than the treatment, the long journey between Vellore and Central and vice versa, and a month away from the high walls of the Vellore Prison has rejuvenated him.

“Arivu always wants to travel for a long period. This journey will be more effective than the treatment in Chennai. He looks fresh and seems to be in a good shape,” said a prison official.

After doctors at Government Vellore Medical College Hospital referred him to another hospital to treat his urinary track infection and back ache, he was shifted from the Puzhal Prison on June 6 to the Rajiv Gandhi General Government Hospital. He underwent a series of test there.
