Revenue Officials Thwart Villagers' Bid to Lay Road to School

NAGAPATTINAM: Under the pretext of laying road for public use, the illegal act of Paalaiyur villagers and private persons, who had quarried soil units from a public pond in Paalaiyur village to lay a link road for a private school in Kadambadi of Nagapattinam town, was thwarted by the revenue officials on Tuesday. The incident came to light only after Express had reported to the District Collector S Palanisamy about the illegal transportation of soil units through as many as seven tractors labelled as ‘For Public Work Under RDO’s Order’.

Sources said that on Tuesday morning about 10-20 private persons in as many as seven tractors were quarrying soil units from a public pond situated in Paalaiyur village and were reportedly dumping it for laying of the link road to a private CBSE school situated in Kadambadi locality.

The tractor operators claimed they had permissions from the Nagapattinam RDO (in-charge) Thenmozhi for ferrying the soil units to lay link road for the private school from East Coast Road (ECR) connecting Velankanni and Karaikal towns.

Collector said, “The tractors involved in transporting the soil to lay link road to the school were immediately stopped after the report.”
