TIRUCHY: Child welfare stakeholders have condemned the police for dishing out inhuman treatment to a rape victim, who was forced to wait for over three hours at the police station. The victim wasn’t even administered first aid despite her screams as she was bleeding severely at the time.
On March 18, a 10-year-old girl residing at Indira Nagar was sexually assaulted by a 17-year-old boy in her hut at around 10.30 am. On hearing her screams, passersby and the neighbours rescued the girl, who was suffering from excessive bleeding through her urinary tract. The crowd caught the culprit.
Later, the parents and neighbours of the girl, along with the culprit were taken to KK Nagar police station but they were redirected to Contonment All Women Police Station (AWPS) to lodge the complaint. Without losing their hopes, they reached the AWPS, Contonment to lodge the complaint of sexual harassment. However, she was made to wait for more than three hours without any medical treatment by N Sheela, Inspector, AWPS, Contonment.
