Six Including Three Women Injured as a Four Storey Building Collapsed

According to police, the four storey building was located near Nathar Vali Dargah in the city.

TIRUCHY: Six including three women were sustained injuries, after a four storey residential building collapsed in the city here on Thursday night. The victims have been admitted at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government hospital and a private hospital for treatment.

According to police, the four storey building was located near Nathar Vali Dargah in the city. The building owner Jalil had commenced some repair work on the ground floor a week ago. After the labourers completed their work in the evening on Thursday, the whole structure had started to collapse at around 8 pm.

However, the whole structure was tilted on another building on the west side of the locality. Subsequently, neighbours rescued six including Mohideen (50), Anwar Sherif (60), Rafia (19), Basheer Ahamed, and a pregnant woman Jahina (29). Of them two had been residing on the first floor and the other four were residing at a house beside the collapsed building, sources said.

Two years ago, the building owner Jalil had  constructed three floors on a 40-year-old residential building. To facilitate some repaire work, Jalil had vacated the families from three floors except first one, sources said.

On information, Sanjay Mathur, Commissioner of Police, R Jayanthi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime and Traffic, M Vijayalakshmi, corporation commissioner visited the spot and conducted an inquiry.

Personnel from Fire and Rescue Services department headed by G Sathya Narayan, District Fire Officer have been pressed into action. They have initiated the  rescue operation. Since, the building was located in a congested area, rescue personnel are struggling to remove the debris. So far, no one was found trapped under the debris at the time of going to the press. However, it would be cleared whether any casuality only after removing the debris, police further said.
