2 Killed, 10 Hurt in Separate Accidents Near Vaniyambadi

VELLORE: Two persons died and 10 persons were injured in two different and unrelated accidents in Vaniyambadi division of the district.

In the first of the two accidents, two persons were killed when a car crashed into a bicycle and minutes later with a motorcycle on the Chennai-Bangalaore NH 4 near Natramapali. The accident happened at around 10.30 am on Monday.

The deceased were identified as A. Lingappan (53), a resident of Kulikanvattam and R Lokesh (27), a resident of Melnokki.

The driver of the car however, remains at large.

The car, first hit the bicycle, being driven by a man, identified as Lokesh.

In the impact, Lokesh’s head was grievously injured causing him to die on the spot.

Minutes after hitting Lokesh, the same car crashed into a motorbike from the rear, being driven by Lingappan. Lingappan also injured his head in the accident and succumbed to the injuries on the spot.

Both bodies were taken to the government hospital.

Several witnesses noted the car registration number and alerted police officials who, in turn, alerted Pallikonda toll-plaza officials.

The driver of the car on reaching the toll plaza was stopped and was questioned by the toll-plaza workers, upon which the driver abandoned the car and fled.

Pallikonda police officials have impounded the car.

A case was registered in Natrampali police station and police officials have begun their inquiry.

In the second accident, 10 school students and a few residents of Kavalur in Jawadhu Hills were injured after the bus hit a roadside tree near Alangayam between 8.30 am and 9 am.

Among the injured students, three students were scheduled to take the 10th standard public exam in a government school in Alangayam.

When the bus reached RMS Puthur near Alangayam, Balakrishnan (40), the bus driver, lost control of the bus and crashed the bus into a tree.

The injured students and other commuters were rushed to Alangayam Government Hospital for first aid.

Education officials and Vaniyambadi MLA Sampath Kumar helped the students reach the school to take the public exam.

A case was registered in Alangayam police station and an inquiry is on.
