Consumer Forum Slaps Rs 17,000 Fine on TNSTC

District Consumer Disputes Redressal forum slapped a fine of Rs.17,000 including cost of the case, on the TNSTC for taking Rs.1.50 paise more than the actual fare.

NAMAKKAL: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal forum today slapped a fine of Rs.17000, including cost of the case, on the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation for taking Rs.1.50 paise more than the prescribed bus fare from a passenger in 2013.

The bus conductor of the TNSTC's Erode Division had collected Rs.10, instead of Rs.8.50 from a passenger who travelled from Kumarapalayam to Sankagiri.

The passenger Balasubramani filed a case against the Corporation for following unfair trade practices through the Tamil Nadu Consumer Association.

Forum Chairman Ayyappan and member Malarkodi directed the TNSTC to return the extra money of Rs.1.50 collected from the passenger.

Besides it directed the corporation to pay Rs.5000 for causing anguish and stress to the passenger,and Rs.2000 towards the cost of case,and Rs.10000 for the consumer welfare fund.
