Now, TNEA Counselling Fee Refund Process Goes Online

COIMBATORE:To avoid confusion and delay, Anna University has introduced online processing to refund counselling fee to students who do not join their course after getting the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA) allotment order.

Anna University, the nodal agency for TNEA 2015, conducted single-window admission counselling in July. It called 1,55,943 candidates and allotted 1,07,969 seats.

Of the total 2,02,422 seats in the government quota, 94,453 remain vacant.

Candidates who participate in the counselling have to pay an initial deposit of Rs 5,000 (Rs 1,000 for SC/SCA/ST candidates from Tamil Nadu). This will be adjusted in the tuition fee.

However, if a candidate does not join the course, 80 percent of the deposit would be refunded. To get a refund, the candidate must surrender the original allotment order and the payment acknowledgement before December 31 to the university.

Around 1,000 candidates claim refund of the initial deposit each year.

This year, Anna University created an online refund processing system. “This will enable the refund to be directly credited to the candidate’s bank account and avoid delay. The candidates must take a printout of refund registration and attach the original call letter to avail the refund,” said TNEA Secretary V Rhymend Uthariaraj. The deposit will be refunded immediately to those candidates who do not participate in the counselling after paying the initial deposit, officials said.
