PUDUCHERRY: A novel initiative by the Puducherry Annaithu Maattrathirunaligal Maruvazhvu Iyakkam enabled differently abled Satheesh, hailing from Cuddalore choose Girija, a native of Puducherry, as partner. The pair gave its consent in the presence of relatives and officials of the Iyakkam at a ‘Swayamvaram’ organised here on Sunday. As many as 60 diffabled persons, including 29 women, had registered to participate in the Swayamvaram, The event was organised by the Iyakkam’s president, G Karthikeyan, and attended by Local Administration Minster N G Panneerselvam and others.
The organisers called the registered people one by one to the dais and announced their bio-data and they were latere allowed to spell out their ‘views’ on their future groom or bride. After this, those whose views matched were urged to discuss among themselves in the presence of their relatives.
Karthikeyan said Satheesh found his match in Girija. He added that two or three more couples decision will also be known in a day or two.
