KARUR:In a tragic incident, three college students drowned in the Cauvery near Kulithalai in the district on Saturday evening.
The victims were identified as Akbar Badusha (18) of Tenkasi, Siddhiq Ali (21) of Pallapatti and Nazrudin (18) of Dindugal - all Arabic students of Jammal Mohammed college.
According to sources, five college students on Saturday had come to attend a function in the house of their friend, Ashik, at Kulithalai. At the end, all of them went to take bath in Cauvery .
While the five were taking bath, three of them accidentally moved into a trench formed due to illegal sand mining and got stuck. Their friends and others tried to rescue them, but in vain. All the three drowned and their bodies were pulled out by the public. Kulithalai police have registered a case.
