VELLORE: Two unidentified persons assaulted a couple and robbed them of gold jewels and cash of Rs 3,000 on a train from Tiruthani to Arakkonam on Saturday.
The victims - Ramakrishnan (47) and Valli (42) of Vadamathur in Tiruchendur Taluk - were returning to Arakkonam when two fellow travellers ordered Ramakrishnan to hand over all jewels and cash. When Ramakrishnan resisted, they assaulted him with a bottle and inflicted injuries on his nose. Immediately,Valli gave her 6 sovereign gold jewels and Ramakrishnan handed over Rs 3,000 he had. The duo jumped off the train later. A case has been filed.
