Hogenakkal Tragedy: Jayalalithaa Condoles Death of Six, Directs Police to Nab Those Responsible

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on Monday granted a solatium of Rs. 1 lakh each to the family of the victims.

CHENNAI: Expressing deep grief on the death of six members of a family from Chennai when the coracle in which they were riding in the Cauvery at Hogenakkal capsized on August 30, the Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday granted a solatium of Rs. 1 lakh each to the family of the victims.

In a statement here, the Chief Minister directed the district administration and police to take legal action against those responsible for the tragic drowning. She also directed quick steps taken to find the bodies of Gokila and Sudiptha who drowned in the river and to bring the bodies to Chennai.

The coracle capsized at Thompachikkal near Hogenakkal. Krishnamurthi, Gowri, Ranjith, Gokila, Darshan (2.5), Sudiptha (10 months)drowned in the river. While four bodies had been recovered, the bodies of Gokila and Sudiptha were untraced.
