SC/ST Act Slapped on 3 Volleyball Players

MADURAI: Rural police registered a complaint against three youth for allegedly abusing a dalit using his caste name in Saptur on Sunday.

The incident happened at a volleyball match in Kudiseri village. The offenders were booked under the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Ordinance 2014.

As per the district administration order, Kudiseri panchayat was directed to hold the volleyball tournament as part of recreational activities. The event was organised at Parasakthi Government Higher Secondary School.

T Rajapandi (21), a dalit youth from Mangalrev village, and his team won the final. When the organisers tried to announce them as winners, the losing team refused to accept the result. The two teams then had an argument.

Rajapandi claimed that three players - S Anandhan, S Palpandi and P Mathan - abused him using his caste name. Based on Rajapandi’s complaint, Sindhupatti police registered a case against the three and began  probing.
